"We got us a Jake!"
"And now we’re going to have our way with him!"
oh how i wish this ship was real life.
It is real life… ;)
That would definitely be interesting. It would be pretty unexpected, I think. I mean, fans online certainly have had the crackship going for a while, but I think that if it were to actually happen on the show, it’d be pretty surprising. Lots of casual fans would probably have never even thought about it before.
Some fans wouldn’t be happy because they like Eclare (or Drianca, but probably to a lesser extent) too much and wouldn’t really want to see Eli with anyone else. Other fans, though, would probably be pretty into it, even if only for the surprise factor. Most of us like to be shocked and excited when watching TV! Still, there are a lot of fans who’d love to see something like that happen on the show.
If it were to actually happen, I’d be fine with it. It’d actually be very interesting to see male sexual fluidity addressed…as long as it’s done well, of course. If it were clearly a gimmick - something done solely to draw in viewers - that’d be far less appealing.
On the other hand, if it were to happen, I could see it just being yet another sort of…love triangle/square (Clare/Eli/Drew/Bianca) and that type of dynamic has been done enough, though I guess this would be a more unique take on it.
As for what it would potentially do for their characters individually…that’s the most interesting part of the question. Eli and Drew don’t have very much in common as far as we can tell. Eli is very interested in the arts, whereas Drew is very interested in sports. However, one thing that they might have in common is a past with trauma. Eli has dealt with death multiple times and Drew dealt with all of that gang violence in the past. They both struggled with the trauma that they faced. While Drew has mostly moved on from that, it could still be a way that they could find themselves connecting. It could help both characters.
It’s all very interesting to think about. I’ve no idea if it would ever actually happen, but both characters will be around to at least some degree in season 13. In general, I think that it’d be pretty neat if Degrassi would have a storyline like this. Sexual fluidity in general has hardly been depicted (basically, Degrassi tends to like to have primarily gay characters and straight characters), but it’s really never been done with male characters before.
Thank you for the message! :)
